Neighborhood Foodie

I love small neighborhoods with interesting histories, and I love great food!

Blue is not ok!

Blueberries are sort of blue, but not actually. I’d call them more of a purplish indigo-y color. Same goes for blue corn, and those really cool Peruvian potatoes. If you’re eating something really and truly BLUE, rest assured it did not come out of the ground that way, and rest assured it’s disgusting. That last part may be less than objective, but for me, it’s one of life’s self evident truths. I have never ever EVER eaten anything blue, that I liked the flavor of. All blue candy? Yuck. And why is it always raspberry flavored? Since when has anyone heard of a blue raspberry? Is it the poor raspberry’s fault that there are too many red fruits, and that in order to differentiate between all their flavors, one had to take one for the team? At least when something watermelon flavored is green, it makes some sense. Blue raspberries, not so much. Blue Sweetarts, Pixie Stix, and Starburst all seem to be made from the same formula, and they all taste vaguely like sour, burnt chemicals. And what is that crazy thing blue food does to your tongue?? Doesn’t it ever make you wonder what it’s doing to your insides? Same goes for blue alcohol. Just don’t do it. The only time I’ve ever gotten sick after drinking was the result of a blue frozen dacquiri. Granted, it was called a Nuclear Kamikaze, it was a yard long, and if we’re nit picking, I had it for breakfast. (I was 21, stupid, and in Las Vegas) Nevertheless – I blame it on the blue. I’m sure there are plenty other examples out there of blue food you just shouldn’t eat, but you get the jist. Nope to blue!!

excellent first post! i am in favor!

i agree with all of the above except i used to love louie blue raspberry otter pops as a kid. they were my favorite otter pop and i'm pretty sure i would still like them.

i also like blue raspberry snow cones and blueberry cheesecake ice cream, which also isn't really blue.

so you're right. even bleu cheese isn't really blue! it's more of a dark green. hm.

oh and post the romesco sauce recipe soon, please! i plan on making that very soon. and maybe even trying that crazy pizza you made with it. even though my boys don't like green olives. i might be able to trick them with the right sauce.
